Best coffee places in Medellín (to do some writing)

Truth to be told, it’s hard to find a place with bad coffee in Medellín. Colombia’s coffee beans are world-famous for a reason! Nevertheless, there are some places around the city where it’s particularly enjoyable to sit down with your favorite cup of coffee and get some words on paper (or screen).

Rituales Cafe

A nice, modern little place in the heart of Laureles. Their coffee is just delicious! Make sure to check out the upper level of the shop (it’s much nicer and more comfortable), where you will also find a small gallery with artsy photos portraying the life in Medellín and stunning coffee fields somewhere in the countryside.

Café Tipica

My favorite place to have a morning coffee and do some writing in Laureles. Probably also the best latte I have ever had in my life! The staff is super kind, too, much more approachable than in some other places in town (but be ready to practice your Spanish, though, as even with their perfectly spoken English, they will encourage you to practice colombiana español). If you’re into brewing coffee at home, there is also a shop where you can buy fresh beans.

Al Alma Provenza

One of the places in El Poblado that I like the most, primarily because it feels a bit hidden from the busy streets of this most touristy neighborhood in Medellín. Al Alma is a chain, and while you can surely find more tasty coffee elsewhere, the quiet street and its lush surroundings definitely make it up for it.

Museo de Antioquia

Probably not a place you’d expect to see on a list like this, but Medellín’s Museum of Antioquia in El Centro has a pretty good coffee shop. This place is a must-see, even if you’re not so much into art. It exhibits work by some of the most famous Colombian artists, including Medellín most famous paisa, Fernando Botero, whose sculptures can be seen all over the city. An excellent way to combine art and writing with a good cup of coffee, especially on a rainy day.
